Ho Chi Minh City Police are currently questioning Nguyen Huu Nghia, 19, and his 14-year-old girlfriend regarding multiple beer thefts from convenience stores. The pair was taken in on 21/8.
Initial investigations reveal Nghia typically drove the girl to stores, feigning interest in buying beer before ordering additional items like snacks. While the shop owner turned to retrieve the items, the couple would signal each other, then drive away with the beer without paying.
Four days ago, Nghia visited a convenience store on Huynh Thi Chau street in Chanh Hiep ward. He asked to buy a crate of Tiger beer, priced at 280,000 VND. After receiving the beer, he ordered more items. As the shop owner turned to retrieve the requested goods, Nghia and the girl were captured on camera repeatedly signaling each other before driving off with the crate of beer.
Following verification, police brought the two individuals and their vehicle in for questioning. Nghia admitted to using similar tactics to steal beer from convenience stores in Thoi Hoa and Chanh Hiep wards on 15/8 and 17/8.
Ho Chi Minh City Police urge anyone who has been a victim of similar theft to report it to their local police station and provide relevant information and documents.
