The incident occurred 5 days prior in the afternoon, when Khanh was driving a vehicle carrying more than 10 passengers on National Highway 50. He was traveling from My Tho towards Cho Gao, with his phone placed next to the steering wheel. As he entered My Phong ward, the driver noticed a message on his phone. He then pulled down his mask and successively removed both hands from the steering wheel to hold and check the device for approximately 10 seconds.
During this time, the passenger oto collided forcefully with a truck parked on the side of the road, causing glass fragments to scatter. Many passengers inside the vehicle were alarmed by the impact.
