Father and son arrested after assault on Phu Quy island

Nguyen Nhat Nam, 24, and his biological father are accused of assaulting an individual, causing injury during a dispute.

Lam Dong Provincial Police announced on 4/2 that they have temporarily detained Nguyen Nhat Nam, 24, and his father, Nguyen Thanh Tung, 52, both residents of Phu Quy island. They are under investigation for intentionally causing injury. Additionally, Nam faces charges for the illegal use of military weapons.

According to investigators, the incident occurred in mid-January. Nam allegedly used a weapon resembling a military weapon to injure an individual on the island during an argument. Instead of intervening, Tung reportedly assisted his son in committing the crime.

Nam has a prior conviction for intentionally causing injury. After serving his prison sentence and returning to the local community, he continued to exhibit thuggish behavior, frequently resorting to violence to resolve disputes. This behavior has negatively impacted security and order on the island.
