The incident occurred previously, on the night of 23/1 and early morning of 24/1, following the U23 Vietnam team's victory over South Korea, securing third place in the U23 Asia tournament. Video captured the group assault.
In Hanoi, a group of 8 youths, all under 18, also participated in these celebratory street gatherings. Upon reaching the Kim Lien underpass, the group conspired to pretend to push down any young women passing by. This tactic was designed to create an opportunity for members of their group to grope the victims.
Around 3h on 24/1, one of the youths blocked a motorcycle carrying a couple. Simultaneously, the remaining members of the group carried out their pre-planned actions.
As they departed, the group encountered another youth walking alone in the underpass. They slapped him on the back of the neck, leading to a verbal altercation. The entire group then collectively assaulted the young man, creating a chaotic scene. The entire incident was recorded on video and subsequently posted on social media.
