On 28/1, Mai Hong Son, 27, residing in Lam Dong province, was criminally detained by Ha Tinh Provincial Police. He is under investigation for fraudulent appropriation of property, an offense under Article 174 of the Penal Code.

According to the investigation, in 4/2025, Son created multiple social media accounts. He regularly posted advertisements for generators, agricultural machinery, and internal combustion engines. When a customer inquired about a purchase, Son would fabricate a contract detailing the ordered goods and shipping information, which he then sent to the client.

Son requested customers to transfer a deposit before delivery. Once the money was received, Son severed all contact.

In late January, while carrying out a fraudulent transaction, appropriating 2 million dong from a woman in Duc Minh commune (formerly part of Duc Tho district), Son was apprehended by police. He was found hiding in a rented room in Lam Dong province.

Authorities accuse Son of having appropriated over 1 billion dong from many individuals nationwide, using similar tactics from 4/2025 to the present.
