Gia Lai provincial police to hold press conference on bank robbery suspect arrest

Gia Lai provincial police are expected to hold a public press conference on the arrest of a suspect in the Vietcombank branch robbery on 19/1.

The Gia Lai Provincial Police will organize a press conference to publicly announce the arrest of the suspect in the bank robbery that occurred on the afternoon of 19/1 at the Tra Ba transaction office of the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade (Vietcombank) Gia Lai branch. This information was stated in an invitation issued by the Provincial Police on the evening of 5/2, with the conference scheduled for 9 am tomorrow morning at the provincial police headquarters.

The robbery, which took place on the afternoon of 19/1, involved two individuals. One suspect, around 40 years old and about 1.65 meters tall, spoke with a northern accent. The other, around 30 years old and about 1.68 meters tall, spoke with a southern accent. They arrived at the bank branch on Truong Chinh street, Hoi Phu ward, on an Exciter motorcycle, with their faces covered, wearing uniforms and helmets from the ride-hailing service Grab, and carrying backpacks.

Upon entering, both suspects brandished guns (type unknown) to threaten employees, stealing approximately VND 1.8 billion before quickly escaping on the motorcycle.

The motorcycle believed to have been used by the two suspects in the bank robbery, found buried in a pine forest bordering Dien Phu Industrial Park on 25/1 – about 5 km from the crime scene. Photo: Ngoc Oanh

Over a week ago, the investigating agency offered a reward and urged the public to actively report criminal activities. This initiative followed the discovery of the Exciter motorcycle—matching the vehicle used by the two robbers during the crime—buried in a pine forest bordering Dien Phu Industrial Park (Dien Hong ward), about 5 km from the crime scene, on 25/1.

Approximately 200 meters from where the motorcycle was buried, police also found an area with burn marks, suspected to be the location where the suspects destroyed their clothes and other evidence.
