Ha Tinh authorities have arrested Nguyen Minh Hoang, 30, for allegedly impersonating a police officer and extorting 20 million VND from a 27-year-old woman at a hotel. The People's Procuracy of Zone 1 - Ha Tinh approved Hoang's temporary arrest on 29/7, charging him with extortion of property.

According to the investigation, the incident occurred around 18h30 on 12/7 at a hotel room on Le Hong Phong street, Thanh Sen ward. Hoang approached the victim, who resides in Quy Chau commune, Nghe An province, posing as a police officer. He then threatened her and demanded the money.

Police apprehended Hoang just days after the victim filed a complaint. However, officials have not yet disclosed the specific methods Hoang used to threaten the woman.

This is not Hoang's first encounter with the law. In 4/2025, the Ha Tinh City People's Court sentenced him to two years of suspended prison for extortion. He is currently serving a 48-month probation period from that previous conviction.
