Former rugby player Wendell Sailor appeared at Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney on 23/3, where he pleaded guilty to causing a disturbance, threatening behavior, and resisting arrest. His lawyer requested the court dismiss the charges, citing a "mental health condition" for the client. The hearing will continue this friday.
Court documents released on 23/3 detail an initial incident on the evening of 6/11/2024, when the 51-year-old former rugby player became agitated while speaking with a bar manager in downtown Sydney. The manager, observing Sailor's intoxication, asked him to leave the premises.
Sailor refused to comply, prompting the employee to state they would call the police. Sailor reportedly responded, "Do you know who I am? Go ahead and call the police and see what happens. You're finished."

According to the indictment, the former player then chased the manager and threatened to assault him. Reinforcements were deployed to assist in the arrest of the former international player. He subsequently claimed his arrest was "racially motivated" before being released on bail with conditions, including a ban on public intoxication.
However, Sailor ignored the ban and went to a bar in Wollongong on 5/1/2025, where he consumed a large quantity of alcohol.
Police were called after he became aggressive with a taxi driver and was seen staggering in the middle of the road. At the time, he reeked of alcohol and slurred insults at officers.
Officers called for additional support as they struggled to apprehend the former player, who resisted fiercely while being handcuffed. It took nine officers a significant amount of time to subdue the muscular man, who stands 1,9 m tall and weighs 106 kg.
Previous court information revealed that the former rugby star is undergoing a difficult separation from his wife of nearly three decades.
Sailor previously represented Australia in both rugby league and rugby union. He was notably the team's highest try-scorer when they won the Rugby League World Cup in 2000. He concluded his 222-game national league career in 2009 after nine seasons. Since retiring, Sailor has worked in television presenting and appeared in reality television shows.
