Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung named 'Outstanding Hanoi Citizen'

Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung, Director of Hanoi Public Security, has been honored as an 'Outstanding Hanoi Citizen' for 2026, recognized for his contributions to the capital's protection, development, and growth.

On the afternoon of 9/10, during a conference celebrating exemplary individuals and good deeds, Hanoi city honored 9 'Outstanding Hanoi Citizens' for 2026. Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung, a Hero of the People's Armed Forces, was among those awarded the prestigious title.

Nguyen Thanh Tung, 58, hails from Nghia Tru commune, Hung Yen province, and holds a PhD in Law. His career includes serving as Head of Bac Tu Liem District Police, then Deputy Director of Hanoi Public Security and Head of the Investigation Police Agency, before assuming the role of Director of Hanoi Public Security in 3/2025.

During his tenure as Head of the Investigation Police Agency, he oversaw numerous complex investigations into serious criminal, economic, corruption, drug, environmental, and high-tech crime cases. As Director of Hanoi Public Security, he promotes digital transformation and the application of science and technology in management, operations, and maintaining security and order.

In 4/2026, Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung was conferred the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.

The eight other 'Outstanding Hanoi Citizens' for 2026 include:

1. Dao Viet Binh, a Meritorious Artisan and Chairman of the Kim Lan Ceramics Association in Bat Trang commune, 54.

2. Nguyen Quang Binh, an Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine, People's Physician, and Deputy Director of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, 59.

3. Mai Duc Chung, a Labor Hero and former Head Coach of the Vietnam Women's National Football Team, 76.

4. Bui Van Kha, a farmer from Dan Phuong commune, 48.

5. Ngo Quang Khai, Head of the Management Subcommittee for the Tran Vu Temple - Cu Linh Pagoda historical site in Long Bien ward, 69.

6. Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nha, abbot of Tran Quoc Pagoda, 76.

7. Huynh Quyet Thang, an Associate Professor, Doctor of Philosophy, Deputy Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and a National Assembly Delegate for the 16th tenure, 59.

8. Pham Thanh Trung, a worker at the Lake Management and Maintenance Enterprise, Hanoi Drainage Company, 44.
