Man accused of embezzling nearly 5 billion VND by pawning rented cars

Tran Van Hai, 35, allegedly forged documents and embezzled six cars worth nearly 5 billion VND by renting them and then pawning them.

Lam Dong Provincial Police arrested Tran Van Hai, 35, a resident of Bac Gia Nghia ward, on 6/9. He is being investigated for fraud and using forged documents.

Hai rented six cars from individuals in Lam Dong, Dong Nai, and Ho Chi Minh City, with a total estimated value of nearly 5 billion VND. He then forged vehicle registration and authorization documents to pawn the cars for 3.55 billion VND.

Hai confessed to spending the money on personal expenses, debt repayment, and gambling.

The scheme was uncovered after a victim in Duc Lap commune filed a complaint against Hai on 22/8. The investigation revealed that Hai had defrauded other individuals as well.

The investigation is ongoing.
