Man beats ex-wife's drinking companion to death

A 47-year-old man has been detained by police after allegedly beating his ex-wife's drinking companion, who later died.

On 22/2, Ca Mau Provincial Police announced they are detaining a man for investigation into a homicide in Truong Duc Hamlet, Dat Moi commune.

According to authorities, the suspect and his wife divorced in 8/2022 but continued to live in the same house as their assets had not been divided.

Around 6 PM on 21/2, the suspect's ex-wife hosted a drinking party at their home with one friend. When the suspect returned around 8 PM, he found the guest lying on his ex-wife's bed. Enraged, he assaulted the man.

A short while later, the ex-wife discovered her drinking companion unconscious. She sought assistance from local security forces, who transported the victim to Nam Can General Hospital. The man later died.

The suspect confessed to repeatedly striking the victim with his hands, targeting the face, area below the ear, and groin. At the time of the assault, the victim was heavily intoxicated and immobile.

Dat Moi commune police took statements from relevant individuals before transferring the case file to Ca Mau Provincial Police for further investigation.
