On 6/8, Long, from Ho Chi Minh City, was detained by Binh Phuoc ward police for investigation into intentional injury and child abuse.

According to the investigation, Long has lived with his partner and her 11-year-old daughter in Binh Phuoc ward for several years. Believing the girl was performing poorly in school, Long repeatedly pulled her ears and slapped her face, causing her nose to bleed.

On the evening of 29/7, Long forced the girl to kneel in the bedroom and hit her legs and buttocks with a wooden stick about 60 cm long. He then made her continue kneeling until about 1h on 30/7 before allowing her to sleep.

Later that evening, while Long was out, the girl borrowed a phone and called her maternal uncle for help. Relatives then took her to the police to report the incident.

During questioning by authorities, Long admitted to the actions. According to his testimony, the girl's mother witnessed Long hitting her on multiple occasions but did not intervene.
