Man hunts down lover after failed reconciliation efforts

Nguyen Ngoc Quy, 39, married with children, used a knife to attack his lover after repeated attempts to reconcile failed.

A man in Tay Ninh province has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for murder after attacking his lover with a knife following her attempts to end their relationship. On 8/1, the Tay Ninh Provincial People's Court also ordered Nguyen Ngoc Quy, 39, to pay more than 500 million dong in compensation to the victim.

The attack occurred on the afternoon of 1/12/2024, when Quy went to Quyen's home in Hoa Khanh Tay commune, which was formerly part of Duc Hoa district and is now Hoa Khanh commune. He entered the house, locked the gate, and proceeded to the kitchen. Quyen attempted to flee but was cornered. Despite her pleas, Quy restrained her and repeatedly slashed her head and face with the knife.

Nearby residents, hearing Quyen's cries for help, broke down the door and intervened. They subdued Quy and held him until police arrived. The victim suffered severe injuries, with more than 70% of her body affected.

Quy, a laborer from Hiep Hoa commune, was married with children when he began an affair with Quyen three years ago. Upon learning he was married, Quyen attempted to end their relationship. Quy, however, refused to accept her decision, repeatedly confronting her and issuing threats of violence.

*The victim's name has been changed.
