The incident occurred around 2 PM on 5/12 at Phu Vinh gold shop on Nguyen Van Thoai street, An Hai ward, Da Nang city. Hien, masked, entered the shop and inquired about jewelry. Seizing an opportunity when the shop owner was distracted, he grabbed a round 5-chi, 98% pure gold ring, valued at nearly 70 million VND. He then fled on an unregistered motorcycle towards Ngo Quyen street.
Following the report, the Criminal Police Department collaborated with local police to investigate the scene, review camera footage, and track the suspect. By 7/12, officers identified Vu Hien as the perpetrator and summoned him for questioning.
During questioning, Hien confessed that mounting debts led him to plan the theft. He borrowed his girlfriend's Airblade motorcycle, removed its license plate near Tuyen Son bridge, and then searched for a quiet gold shop during the lunch hour. After snatching the ring, Hien drove through several main roads to evade pursuit. He then went to the Con Dau church area, where he changed his jacket and helmet, and reattached the license plate. Subsequently, he sold the ring at a gold shop in Hoa Cuong ward for 65 million VND and spent all the money.
Police recovered the motorcycle, an iPhone 8 Plus, and the 5-chi, 98% pure gold ring. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
