On 17/3, the Nghe An Provincial People's Court sentenced Nguyen Van Luan, 56, residing in Cua Lo ward, to 10 years in prison for attempted murder under Article 123 of the Criminal Code. The court determined that Luan's actions were violent and required strict punishment.
In court, Luan expressed remorse, hoping for his wife and family's forgiveness. He received some leniency due to his honest confession and the victim's request for a reduced sentence.

According to the indictment, the conflict escalated on the afternoon of 25/10/2025 between Luan and his second wife, Tam, 43. Tam packed her belongings and went to her mother's house, declaring her intent to file for divorce.
After numerous unanswered calls, Luan went to her mother's home around 8 p.m. that evening to persuade her to reconsider. When she refused, insisting on a unilateral divorce, Luan returned home, stopping to get alcohol from his sister-in-law.
Authorities allege that Luan returned to Tam's mother's house around 9 p.m., armed with a knife. He again demanded she drop the divorce and come home. Upon her refusal, he immediately stabbed her multiple times.
Tam suffered severe injuries, resulting in 18% health impairment. Luan surrendered to authorities following the attack.
