The incident occurred around 1:15 AM outside a cafe in Hamlet 3, Ea Kar commune. Tran Huy Hoang, 17, from Dlie Ya commune, was drinking with friends when Nguyen Hoang My Nghi, 16, from Can Tho city, passed by with her boyfriend, Nguyen Tien Tung, and two friends.

Due to a previous conflict between them, Nghi called Hoang aside to talk, which quickly escalated into an argument and a scuffle. Hoang then entered the cafe, retrieved a knife, and returned to the scene.

Defending his girlfriend, Tung, from Ea Kar commune, intervened and attacked Hoang. Authorities allege that during the altercation, Tung used a knife he had brought with him to fatally stab Hoang.

Within an hour of the incident, Tung surrendered to police. He is currently being held by Dak Lak Provincial Police on suspicion of murder.
