Man snatches gold necklace, gives it to girlfriend to sell for debt repayment

Bui Chau Thanh, 36, approached on a motorbike, snatched a woman's gold necklace, then gave it to his girlfriend to sell to pay off debts.

On 11/8, Thanh was temporarily detained by Ho Chi Minh City Police for investigation into property snatching. The suspect has two previous convictions for this crime, having been released from prison a few months ago.

Authorities are also clarifying the actions of Thanh's girlfriend.

Camera recorded Thanh driving a motorbike and snatching the woman's necklace.

Two days prior, Thanh rode a motorbike with a fake license plate, seeking victims around the Linh Trung Export Processing Zone, Tam Binh Ward, Thu Duc City. Upon seeing a woman shopping at a market, he swiftly approached, snatched her gold necklace in a second, and fled. Security cameras recorded the incident.

Police later tracked him down and arrested Thanh while he was hiding in Tam Binh Ward.

Thanh admitted that after snatching the necklace, he gave it to his girlfriend, who sold it for 13 million VND to pay off debts. The victim stated that the 18K gold necklace was purchased for 25 million VND.
