Tai, originally from Vinh Hung commune, had no stable job. Two years ago, Tai and a 21-year-old woman lived as husband and wife in Hamlet 2, Vinh Hung commune. Because Tai did not want to marry, the girl's parents forbade him from visiting their newborn child. At this time, the mother and child had moved in with the girl's family.
On Lunar New Year's Eve (17/2), Tai carried a long knife, hidden in his jacket pocket, and went near his girlfriend's house. He climbed over the fence into the general store, then approached the bed and stabbed the 46-year-old man who was sleeping.
Hearing her husband's cries, the girl's mother and daughter ran to intervene, used ropes to restrain Tai, and handed him over to the police.
The victim died shortly after.
