On the afternoon of 6/9, a large police force, including economic, criminal, and mobile police units from Thanh Hoa Province, were deployed to cordon off and search the home of 51-year-old Manh "Go" in Hac Thanh ward. After several hours, police confiscated a number of documents.
This is the second time Manh "Go"'s residence has been searched in the past two months.
Manh has been a notorious figure in Thanh Hoa for decades but has kept a relatively low profile compared to other prominent figures. His nickname, Manh "Go" (Go meaning wood), stems from his history of trading large quantities of timber from Laos across the border into Thanh Hoa Province. Recently, he has expanded his business into liquefied petroleum gas and gas.

According to investigators, the action against Manh is part of a broader investigation into Manh Tung Petro Liquefied Petroleum Gas Joint Stock Company, located at 55 Le Hoan, Hac Thanh ward, Thanh Hoa Province.
Before executing the emergency search warrant on Manh "Go"'s residence, police summoned him for questioning regarding a series of alleged offenses: smuggling, illegal logging, and bribery. In this case, Manh "Go" is suspected of acting as both an advisor and a key accomplice to the notorious Nguyen Van Vi (known as Vi "Ngo"), who was arrested on 30/6.

Vi "Ngo" was a founding shareholder and played a significant role in Manh Tung Petro's operations. Authorities allege that the company omitted over 33 billion VND in revenue from its accounting records. The company is also accused of forging numerous value-added tax invoices and creating fictitious transactions to legitimize documents and procedures, evading tens of billions of VND in taxes.
In addition to Vi "Ngo", who is being investigated for “violations of accounting regulations causing serious consequences”, authorities have also detained Nguyen Huy Tung (Manh "Go"'s son), Dao Manh Linh, and Le Thi Tinh on the same charges.
