Passenger vandalizes ride-hailing car after dispute over 'extra cleaning fee'

La Thien Bao, 33, is accused of assaulting a driver and breaking the two side mirrors of a ride-hailing car following an argument about an additional cleaning fee after his friend vomited in the vehicle.

On 6/1, Bao was indicted by Ho Chi Minh City Police and issued a travel ban from his residence, to investigate his act of disturbing public order.

According to the investigation, on the evening of 13/12/2025, after a drinking session, Bao and his friends hailed a ride-hailing car from Tan Thoi Hiep ward to Hanh Thong ward. During the trip, one intoxicated person vomited in the car, so the 39-year-old driver asked the passengers to "cover the cleaning fee", which led to an argument. Upon reaching the intersection of Phan Van Tri - Le Duc Tho, the group of passengers demanded to get out and walk.

Although one person had already paid the full fare and cleaning fee, the driver still called Bao back, saying "let's talk it out". Bao, angered and fueled by alcohol, rushed forward, tore the driver's shirt, punched him in the chest, and kicked and broke the two side mirrors of the car. After being intervened, Bao left for home.

Ho Chi Minh City Police advised citizens to behave civilly and not let alcohol lead to loss of control. All acts of assault, disturbing the peace, or property damage will be dealt with severely.

Ride-hailing drivers, when facing disputes, should prioritize ensuring their safety and promptly report to the police or their management company for support.
