Pickup truck driver additionally charged with murder after fatal road rage incident

Mai Anh Nhat, 43, has been additionally charged with murder, one week after allegedly beating a 64-year-old 7-seater car driver to death following a traffic collision.

Tay Ninh Provincial Police announced on 6/2 that the local People's Procuracy approved the decision to prosecute Mai Anh Nhat, a resident of Hau Nghia commune, for murder.

Five days prior to this announcement, Nhat had been temporarily detained for disturbing public order.

The incident occurred at noon a week ago in Tay Ninh province. Nhat was driving his pickup truck, taking his daughter to school from the Hau Nghia intersection towards Hoa Khanh commune.

While slowing down for a red light at the intersection of DT825 road and Ba Sa - Go Moi road, Nhat's vehicle collided with a 7-seater car driven by a 64-year-old man residing in Ho Chi Minh City.

Both drivers exited their vehicles. Nhat, angered, confronted the other driver, asking, "Why are you driving so erratically?" He then punched the 7-seater driver three times in the temple, causing the man to fall to the ground. Nhat continued the assault by kicking the victim in the left rib area, rendering him unconscious.

Bystanders intervened, and Nhat, along with others, used his own vehicle to transport the victim to the emergency room. However, the victim succumbed to his injuries the next day at the hospital.
