Police raid 1 trillion dong football betting and lottery ring

Criminal police announced an operation to eradicate gambling during the World Cup 2026 season, apprehending a football betting and lottery ring worth 1 trillion dong.

On 4/7, the Can Tho City Police Criminal Police Department announced this action was taken under directives from the Ministry of Public Security and the Director of Can Tho City Police to combat gambling during World Cup 2026. In the early morning of 28/6, unit forces simultaneously conducted emergency searches of 8 football betting and lottery hubs across the area.

26 individuals involved were taken to the police headquarters for questioning. Task forces seized 45 mobile phones, iPads, various computers, and numerous documents, including land deeds, linked to the gambling activities.

Initially, the Police Agency identified that the total transaction value of this football betting and lottery ring, from its inception until its dismantling, exceeded 1 trillion dong.

The Can Tho City Police Investigation Agency has provisionally detained 13 individuals (whose identities have not been disclosed) to clarify their acts of gambling and organizing gambling.

Police are currently expanding the investigation.
