Police rescue youth who jumped from Chau Doc bridge

A 20-year-old man, distressed by family issues, jumped from Chau Doc bridge into the river but was promptly rescued by police and residents and taken to a hospital.

A 20-year-old man was rescued by police and local residents after he jumped from Chau Doc bridge into a river on the evening of 18/2, the second day of the Lunar New Year (Tet). The incident, reportedly stemming from family distress, occurred around 8:45 PM in Chau Doc ward, when residents spotted the man leaving his motorbike on the bridge, climbing over the railing, and leaping into the water. They immediately alerted authorities.

Upon receiving the report, Chau Doc Ward Police dispatched officers to the scene. They also notified the Chau Doc Waterway Police Station, part of the An Giang Provincial Police, to coordinate a search operation with other relevant units and local residents.

About 30 minutes later, at 9:15 PM, rescue teams located the man floating in the river, approximately 100 meters from where he jumped. They quickly reached him, brought him ashore, and transported him by patrol car to a hospital for emergency treatment.

Authorities confirmed that the young man's condition is now stable.

Chau Doc Ward Police urged the public to remain calm and seek support from family when facing life's challenges, rather than resorting to impulsive actions that endanger their lives and cause distress for their families and society.
