Pretending to buy goods, man kidnaps young girl

Ha Van Ty stopped his motorbike, pretending to shop, then exploited a lapse in vigilance by a group of children to kidnap a 6-year-old girl before fleeing from Son La to Lao Cai.

Ha Van Ty, 30, was arrested by the Son La Provincial Police's Criminal Investigation Department and related units for child kidnapping on the evening of 4/7. Ty resides in Cau Thia ward, Lao Cai province.

Ty was apprehended by police at 18h30 on the same day while hiding in Cang Dong village, Tram Tau commune, approximately 60 km from the kidnapping scene. The young girl was safely rescued, with no harm to her health or life.

Ty confessed to police that around 8h yesterday, he was driving an unlicensed motorbike alone from Bung village, Muong Bu commune, Son La province, heading to his home in Tram Tau commune, Lao Cai province. As he passed through Ke village, Ngoc Chien commune, he saw four young children selling goods by the roadside.

Ty then stopped his motorbike and pretended to buy fruit to distract the children. Taking advantage of their lapse in vigilance, he kidnapped the 6-year-old girl and fled with the victim towards Lao Cai province.
