Son steals mother's gold, fakes crime scene

Vi Van Hanh stole 10 chi of gold from his mother's cabinet, selling it for 150 million VND to fund his gambling habit, and then staged a ransacking to mislead his family into believing their home had been burglarized.

On 8/1, Hanh, 26 years old, residing in Ke Ninh village, was prosecuted and detained by Quy Chau Commune Police for theft of property, under Article 173 of the Penal Code.

According to the investigation, on 1/1, Hanh told his family he was working in Que Phong commune. He then took a vehicle back to Quy Chau commune, broke into the bedroom, and stole 10 chi of his mother's gold from the cabinet. To further the deception, he deliberately knocked over several items, making his relatives believe a burglar had entered the home.

Hanh sold the gold for 150 million VND, subsequently losing it all to online gambling.

Upon receiving the victim's report, Quy Chau Commune Police identified Hanh as the individual who faked the crime scene within one day.

The gold was recovered. This precious asset represented years of savings by Hanh's mother, intended for her retirement.
