Stabs romantic rival, then transports victim to emergency room

After stabbing and slashing a 41-year-old man during a prearranged fight, Tran Van Phuong used his motorcycle to transport the victim to the hospital emergency room before fleeing.

On the afternoon of 18/8, Phuong, 38, residing in Phu Tuc commune, was indicted and detained by Vinh Long provincial police for investigation into the act of murder.

According to initial investigations, Phuong had a romantic relationship with a woman of 40. In the early morning of 13/8, via text messages, Phuong learned his girlfriend was having a late-night meal with a 41-year-old man at the wholesale market in Phu Khuong ward.

The man then reportedly called Phuong. The two argued and challenged each other to a fight at Phuong's girlfriend's rented room in Phu Khuong ward.

When Phuong arrived, the opponent wielded a machete and struck him in the head. Phuong retaliated with a long-bladed knife, stabbing him in the hip, causing the man to fall into a nearby ornamental plant pot.

Phuong continued to attack, stabbing and slashing repeatedly until his girlfriend intervened. He then stopped and used his motorcycle to transport the victim to Nguyen Dinh Chieu General Hospital for emergency treatment before fleeing.

The 41-year-old man later died.

After being persuaded by police, Phuong surrendered and admitted his actions.
