On 24/7, Nguyen Ba Hoang Nam and Nguyen Van Quan, both 19 years old, were sentenced by the Hanoi People's Court to 10 and 5 years in prison respectively for murder.

The indictment stated that on the morning of 21/8/2025, Nam arbitrarily took his roommate's motorcycle key to go out. In the evening, Nam picked up Quan from Me Linh to the Tay Ho area.
At the time of the incident, both defendants were only 17 years and 10 months old, and Nam did not possess a driver's license.
While traveling across Nhat Tan Bridge to Au Co street, Nam drove at a speed of 70-80 km/h, swerving and weaving through traffic, and continuously bypassed checkpoints set up by authorities, despite police signaling them to stop using whistles and traffic wands.
Around 20:00 on the same day, they arrived at Nghi Tam street, where a Hanoi Police working group was on duty protecting the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on 2/9.
Despite seeing the signal to stop, Nam did not reduce speed but continued to drive directly into officer Le Dinh Cong of the Mobile Police Department, who was on duty at a checkpoint with a barrier.

The strong impact threw officer Cong approximately 5 meters, rendering him unconscious. Nam and Quan also fell off their motorcycle and onto the road.
The injury assessment results revealed that officer Cong suffered severe multiple injuries, with a 73% injury rate. Nam sustained 60% bodily injury, while Quan sustained 2%.
During the investigation, Nam underwent a mental health evaluation. The results confirmed that at the time of the crime and the evaluation, Nam did not suffer from a mental illness and was fully capable of understanding and controlling his actions.
The families of the two defendants voluntarily compensated officer Cong with a total of 60 million VND.
The victim had no further civil claims and submitted a petition requesting a reduction in the defendants' sentences.
