A two-year-old girl in Nghe An is recovering after allegedly being injured by her mother, who then attempted suicide, an incident that has led to a police investigation. La Thi Nam, 48, from Mon Son commune, is currently receiving treatment at Tay Nam Nghe An General Hospital, where police are monitoring her. Her two-year-old daughter, who sustained an open neck wound, is now stable and under close observation.

Investigators believe that around 1h on 24/12, at their home in Tan Son village, Mon Son commune, Nam attacked her two-year-old daughter, who was sleeping beside her, with a knife before attempting to take her own life.

Alerted by the child's cries, Nam's four other children rushed into the room, disarmed their mother, and transported both to the emergency room.

The family of five children had recently experienced tragedy, with Nam's husband passing away just over three months ago.

Police will interview Nam after her recovery to clarify the incident.
