World Cup betting ring with 3,500 billion VND transactions uncovered in Ho Chi Minh City

Huynh Le Thanh Long and accomplices operated two football betting rings with total transactions exceeding 3,500 billion VND.

On 7/7, Huynh Le Thanh Long and 84 others were prosecuted and detained by the Criminal Police Department (PC02) of the Ho Chi Minh City Police. They face charges related to organizing gambling and gambling.

PC02 detectives uncovered the sophisticated online football betting ring during the peak of the 2026 World Cup. Led by Long, the group operated across Ho Chi Minh City and numerous provinces nationwide.

In early June, investigators established a special task force to dismantle the operation.

By late June, PC02 led a coordinated effort with Lam Dong Provincial Police and other local police forces, simultaneously busting the case and summoning those involved.

Investigation results revealed that Long and key accomplices Nguyen Viet Bao Long, Hua Ba An, Tran Le Tuan Kiet, Tran Anh Dung, Le Thanh Tien, and Hoang Tan Phat, obtained master-level betting accounts from Cambodia. This leadership group then divided these into numerous agent and member accounts, distributing them to subordinate agents and gamblers to participate in betting via the gambling website.

Investigators determined that from 10/2025 until its detection, the total amount used by this group for organizing gambling and gambling was estimated at over 3,500 billion VND. The system was hierarchical, tightly controlled, and had expanded across many localities.

In total, investigators arrested 150 individuals connected to the two aforementioned gambling rings.
