International, AkzoNobel's marine coatings brand, has launched Intergard 6788, a versatile, aluminum-containing pure epoxy primer. This product was specifically developed to meet the rigorous demands of the global newbuild marine market. AkzoNobel has identified Vietnam and China as two key distribution markets for this product line in Asia.

The pure epoxy technology enables a higher solids content, proactively addressing increasingly stringent global regulations on volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This advantage allows shipyards to boost productivity and reduce costs by improving application efficiency, minimizing material waste, and decreasing paint over-consumption. Furthermore, Intergard 6788 provides technicians with better control over the paint layer, enhancing film thickness.

A brand representative stated that real-world test results at a major shipyard in China demonstrated Intergard 6788's superior application performance compared to other high-solids paints on the market. Its stable and easily controllable performance helps shipyards simplify planning, reduce complex operational steps, and enhance the overall efficiency of the newbuild process.

According to Kim, Intergard 6788 offers a balanced choice among corrosion protection capabilities, application efficiency, and investment costs. He emphasized that selecting the right coating solution is a crucial strategy for businesses to improve operational performance, extend vessel lifespan, and contribute to the industry's sustainable development goals.
