Content creator flees home after being pranked with fake delivery orders

After publicly sharing his address online to request sweets, Veeramani, a content creator in Tamil Nadu, was forced to leave his home due to a barrage of high-value fake delivery orders.

Veeramani, a content creator in Madurai city, Tamil Nadu, posted his phone number and home address on social media to solicit sweets for Diwali, the traditional Indian festival of lights, which took place from 8/11 to 10/11. However, his personal information was exploited by many individuals who placed numerous fake orders, leading to a relentless stream of deliveries.

Starting from 8/10, delivery drivers repeatedly brought high-value items to his home, all on a cash-on-delivery basis. These included televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, and smartphones. The most expensive item was a television valued at 169.000 rupees (approximately 46 million VND). Veeramani consistently refused to accept the deliveries, asserting that he had not placed any orders and would not provide an OTP.

The volume of unwanted deliveries quickly became overwhelming. "On some days, 15 orders arrived in just half an hour. I don't have money, please stop," he pleaded. The prank escalated beyond electronics, as food delivery apps Swiggy and Zomato also brought continuous food orders to his address. Online harassment further intensified with the circulation of memes depicting excavators and military tanks being ordered to his home. Concurrently, Veeramani's phone number was disseminated on forums for organ donation and matching, resulting in numerous harassing calls.

This situation placed significant pressure on the delivery personnel and directly affected Veeramani's family. In a video posted on 15/10, he announced that he had to leave his home for a period to avoid persistent demands for money from delivery services and continued harassment.

This incident followed a previous successful appeal where Veeramani had asked fans for donations and received 6.000 rupees (approximately 1,6 million VND) for a trip to Kerala. The success of that initial appeal encouraged him to repeat the action for Diwali, inadvertently leading to the current predicament.
