Can Tho University running club brings youthful energy to VnExpress Marathon

50 students from the Can Tho University running club will compete and volunteer at the VnExpress Marathon on 14/9.

The VnExpress Marathon, taking place in Can Tho for the first time on 14/9, is set to be a major sporting event for the Mekong Delta region. The event is expected to attract 9,000 professional and amateur athletes and has received enthusiastic support from the student community of Can Tho University, a school known for its vibrant sports scene.

The university's running club will have 50 members participating. They have registered to compete in distances ranging from 5 km to 42 km. Those not competing will volunteer, assisting with various tasks from water stations to medical support. The club sees the event not only as a chance to train but also as a rare opportunity for young people to learn how a major sporting event operates.

"We've been looking forward to the VnExpress Marathon all year. This is a special opportunity because it's the first time the race has come to the Mekong Delta. We want to bring a sense of freshness and enthusiasm, representing Can Tho University", said Phu Anh, the club's president.

Having trained in various central areas of Can Tho, the club representative assessed the race route as moderately challenging, with bridge inclines that are not too steep, suitable for the members' fitness levels. Notably, the 21 km route will pass through the Can Tho University campus, a place close to the hearts of many generations of students. Many club members have chosen this distance to create a lasting memory of their student days and to promote the spirit of sport among their peers.

"We're not just running, we're also providing support behind the scenes to ensure thousands of runners have the best possible experience. It's also a way to showcase the dynamism, responsibility, and enthusiasm of Can Tho University students", said a club representative.

According to Duong Hai Anh, director of the VnExpress Marathon, the energy from the students contributes to the vibrant and inspiring atmosphere of the event.

"We hope the race is not just a place to set personal records, but also for the younger generation to challenge themselves, gain experience, and grow", said Hai Anh.

The inaugural VnExpress Marathon Can Tho will begin on the morning of 14/9. The route will pass through iconic landmarks of the city such as Ninh Kieu Bridge, Luu Huu Phuoc Park, and Con Cai Khe. The race promises runners a unique experience, conquering the course while immersing themselves in the characteristic river life of the Mekong Delta.
