Family hosts 350-table banquet to celebrate finding lost son

After finding their autistic son following an 80-hour disappearance, a family in Guizhou hosted a 350-table banquet to thank rescue forces and residents.

On the morning of 1/8, 4-year-old Wenhao left his home through the back door in Kaili city, Guizhou province. He lived with his grandparents because his parents worked away. Due to his autism, the boy could not communicate normally or call for help when in danger.

Security cameras recorded Wenhao passing through several residential areas, then appearing at a construction site before his trail was lost. Local police, along with hundreds of residents, immediately launched a search using K9 units and drones equipped with thermal cameras. Residents also brought water, food, and medicine to support the rescue team.

On the night of 3/8, over 300 volunteers continued to search through forests, cornfields, and abandoned construction sites in the rain.

Around 7:40 p.m. on 4/8, former soldier Yuan Qingding noticed an anomaly while flying his drone over a mountain cornfield. Initially, the boy lay motionless. It was only when Wenhao raised his hand to swat mosquitoes that Yuan confirmed he was alive. Search forces then accessed the scene and brought the boy out.

Wenhao was admitted to the hospital suffering from acute dehydration, mild kidney damage, and infection. He was discharged on 11/8 after his vital signs stabilized.

On 16/8, Wenhao's family hosted a thank-you banquet. Although initially planned for 200 tables, the number of attendees and supporters grew to 350 tables. Local residents arrived early to help butcher 5 pigs and prepare dishes. The family announced they would not accept monetary gifts.

Wenhao's parents stated that money and possessions could be regained, but the loss of their son would be irreplaceable.

Following the incident, Kaili city Central Hospital diagnosed Wenhao with severe autism and announced they would fully fund his rehabilitation program.
