From CEO to food delivery driver

Once a CEO of a company managing thousands of drivers, Indera Aria Wee Jeeny went bankrupt due to a leaked business secret and now works as a delivery driver.

Indera Aria Wee Jeeny, 40, took on the CEO role at a food delivery app company in 10/2019. At its peak, the business achieved a profit of 6 million ringgit (about 1,4 million USD) and managed 3,000 drivers operating in the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah. The company had a strategic partnership with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation.

A turning point came when an employee secretly sold the internal database and business strategy to a competitor. From 1/2021, business declined, with profits falling to 40,000 - 80,000 ringgit (9,900 - 19,800 USD). Indera had to sell personal assets to pay employee salaries before the company went bankrupt.

This event completely changed the life of the father of two. There were times when Indera ran out of money for food. "I used to search for every loose coin to buy rice and walked long distances because I had no vehicle", he recounted. According to Indera, many acquaintances also gradually avoided him, fearing he would ask to borrow money.

Despite wanting to give up many times, Indera found renewed motivation. He recalled seeing a driver holding 20 ringgit to buy food for his child, which inspired him to continue working.

From 2026, Indera has been working as a freelance food delivery driver and offering grocery shopping services for a fee of 5-10 ringgit (1,3-2,6 USD) per order. While on the job, he proactively assists people experiencing car breakdowns, such as a dead battery or a flat tire. "Having hit rock bottom, I always observe my surroundings while delivering to help those in need", Indera said.

Almost every night, he witnesses difficult circumstances. He once encountered a family that had gone without food for 2 weeks and tried to support them within his financial means. "Helping others every day brings me a sense of peace", he said.

Indera now views the incident as a valuable lesson and is determined to rise again as an entrepreneur, aiming to create jobs for the community.
