On 24/4, Ms. Fan from Ganzhou City, Jiangxi province, shared a heartwarming story about her former landlord, Chen, with local media.
In 1992, when Ms. Fan's father, who had lost sight in both eyes, moved alone to Jiangxi seeking a place to live, many landlords turned him away due to concerns. Chen, however, offered him a 40 m2 room for just 50 yuan, a fraction of the market rate of 200-300 yuan. "I only collect money so tenants can live in peace," Chen explained.

This nominal rent remained unchanged for the two decades Ms. Fan's family resided there, even as local rents soared to 600 yuan per month. Chen never pressed Ms. Fan's father for payment when he was late. Beyond rent, Chen also personally handled electricity and water repairs, took Ms. Fan to the hospital, and frequently provided extra rice and vegetables whenever the family faced hardships.
In 2012, after Ms. Fan had grown up and her family moved to a different location, Chen's kindness did not cease. Despite suffering from rheumatism, he regularly took the bus to visit his old friend, bringing milk and supplements, and consistently refusing any gifts in return. Occasionally, he would discreetly leave money to support his former tenants for emergencies.

Currently, Ms. Fan's father is 77 years old, and Chen is 80. Their bond has strengthened further as they now live only 1,5 km apart. Chen now walks to continue his routine of visiting his old friend a few times each year.
Ms. Fan stated that her family deeply values Chen's assistance, considering it a significant source of strength that helped them overcome difficult times.
