Huang Weiping and his wife, Tian Xinju, 75, had a grown son and daughter before Tianci was born. Tian was a doctor, and Huang was a lawyer. After retiring, they lived peacefully in their hometown with a small vegetable garden.

In 2018, Tian suffered a cerebral infarction. After a period of medication, she experienced prolonged fatigue, nausea, and dizziness. Initially, they attributed these symptoms to complications of old age, but a diagnosis confirmed she was pregnant. The couple, then 67 and 68, became China's oldest natural pregnancy case.
Despite opposition from their two older children and health risks, Huang and Tian decided to keep the pregnancy. They calculated that their pensions would be sufficient to support Tianci. However, raising a young child in their twilight years quickly drained their energy. Huang initially hired a nanny for 670 USD per month, but soon let her go as Tianci didn't bond with her parents. He decided to handle household tasks himself.
In his 70s, the former lawyer juggled soothing Tianci to sleep, preparing milk, and chasing after the active child to feed her spoonfuls of rice. To keep up with his daughter's increasingly quick steps, he regularly walks 4 kilometers in the park every evening. Huang admits he is racing against time, constantly worried that his age might prevent him from accompanying his daughter until she reaches adulthood.
The situation became more difficult after Tian lost the ability to walk in early 2024. The former doctor, who once contributed financially through community lectures, is now plagued by feelings of helplessness as she depends entirely on her husband for daily activities. To cover medical and living expenses, Huang takes on additional legal cases from home and occasionally livestreams to sell products on social media.

Recognizing that his time is running out, Huang has devised a contingency plan for his youngest daughter. He rented a house with a garden spanning nearly 200 square meters in a tourist area in Nanning, Guangxi, with a 20-year contract. He chose this location because many close relatives live nearby. The elderly father calculates that if he were to suddenly pass away, Tianci would still have someone to rely on.
Now in primary school, Tianci knows how to wash her own clothes, help her father harvest vegetables, and care for her mother. Despite facing immense public skepticism regarding the responsibility of late parenthood, Huang states he has never regretted their decision. "For us," the 75-year-old father says, "her arrival is a blessing bestowed by life and the reason we strive every day."
