Tara Little resides in the suburbs of Darwin, Australia. Previously, she faced stress from expensive rent and conflicts with roommates. A crisis emerged when Tara lost her job. Unable to pay her rent, she began house-sitting and pet-sitting for acquaintances who were traveling.
Recognizing the financial benefits of eliminating living expenses, Tara decided to pursue this work full-time.

To secure clients, she registered on two platforms: Aussie House Sitters and Mad Paws. She also proactively promoted her services within Darwin's community groups. Leveraging her social media management skills, she built a personal brand by taking photos and videos of the homes and pets she cared for, creating an online portfolio. This approach helped her attract high-income clients who booked her services year-round.
"The best part is living alone and not having to worry about rent or bills", Tara stated, "I no longer wake up to noise, nor do I argue about cleaning."
Currently, she combines house-sitting with her social media management profession. Before each assignment, she always meets homeowners in person to understand the space's layout, learn the pets' routines, and receive the keys.
Tara estimates she saves approximately 6,500 USD annually on rent and bills. In the past year, her house-sitting work generated an income of about 3,200 USD.

However, the job comes with many strict rules, which vary depending on each homeowner. On one occasion, she had to limit her outings because a client's pet suffered from anxiety. The most frequent rule she encountered was a ban on hosting parties.
Constantly changing residences compels Tara to live more minimally, reducing her wardrobe and limiting shopping. A significant challenge for her is the process of cleaning and packing her belongings after each house-sitting period. She also frequently faces pressure from last-minute client cancellations, often needing to rely on family and friends for accommodation.
Tara plans to save money to buy a van and travel across Australia. "I want to care for pets and homes anywhere", she stated, "The only thing I trade is the feeling of stability from living long-term in one place."
