"Minneapolis is -29 degrees Celsius this morning, with a real feel of -43 degrees Celsius," Jennifer McDermed said while sharing an 8-second video filmed on her porch in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The moment quickly went viral on social media platform X (Twitter), reaching over 9,5 million views in one day.

The "flash freeze" phenomenon is common during record cold spells, but it consistently captivates viewers. Following the trend, a woman in Michigan also posted an image of her spaghetti plate, which froze solid minutes after being placed outdoors.
The humor in these social media videos starkly contrasts with the harsh reality many Americans are facing. A widespread blizzard, stretching from Texas to New England, has claimed at least seven lives and prompted nearly half of the states to declare a state of emergency.
The National Weather Service (NWS) stated that a Polar Vortex pushing south, combined with moisture, caused this natural disaster. In historically warm states like Texas and Louisiana, temperatures recorded were 20 degrees Celsius lower than the annual average.

As of the afternoon of 25/1, over 800,000 households across the United States experienced power outages. FlightAware reported more than 11,000 flight cancellations. New York Governor Kathy Hochul warned residents to limit outdoor exposure to no more than five minutes to avoid hypothermia and stroke risks.
The freezing conditions and snow are expected to persist until early February, directly affecting the lives of 180 million Americans.
