Wild boar wanders into home, becomes 'money-making machine'

Seeing a scrawny, injured wild boar unexpectedly enter his home, Luo, out of compassion, cooked it a pot of noodles to satisfy its hunger.

For the next three days, the boar consistently returned to his door, seeking food.

"A netizen commented that it was fortunate the boar met me; if it had encountered someone else, it might have been slaughtered," Luo recalled, describing the boar's initial days with him in 11/2024. "That comment prompted me to keep it and care for it through the winter."

As time passed, the bond between Luo and the animal grew stronger. Luo realized the boar had become accustomed to being fed and would struggle to survive in the wild. He decided to keep it long-term, naming it Mi Soi, which means "Noodle." In one year, Mi Soi's weight increased from 15 kg to 75 kg.

To provide his pet with a better living environment, Luo moved his family from their old apartment to a detached house with a spacious garden.

Each day, Mi Soi consumes about 2 kg of feed, supplemented with vegetables and meat, costing around 500 CNY monthly. Luo noted that the boar is a picky eater, favoring sweets and meat but disliking apples. It is house-trained and has learned to walk on a leash like a domestic dog.

Luo has even driven Mi Soi on trips to Zhejiang and taken it for grooming and fur dyeing. Videos documenting Mi Soi's daily life have garnered about 200,000 social media followers, generating an income of approximately 5,000 CNY (19 million VND) for Luo each month.

Initially, Luo's wife objected to keeping a wild boar indoors. However, after witnessing the pet's good behavior and its steady income, she accepted its presence.

Mi Soi's popularity has attracted significant attention. Luo once received an offer of 50,000 CNY to buy the boar but declined.

"I simply want it to live a healthy and happy life here; I do not want it to be over-exploited," he stated.

According to lawyer Fu Jian of Henan Zejin Law Firm, China's Wildlife Protection Law permits individuals to adopt species not on the specially prohibited list. However, it mandates that breeding requires a license.
