Stranger donates 20 million dong to female shipper who lost delivery money

Vu Thi Hoai, 33, received 20 million dong from an anonymous benefactor after losing a bag of money while delivering goods with her 10-month-old daughter on the afternoon of 11/12.

Hoai, a delivery driver in Hoa Quan commune, Thanh Chuong district, inadvertently dropped her handbag around 4 p.m. on 11/12. The bag contained 20 million dong in cash collected from customers for goods, along with her mobile phone. This loss was particularly devastating for Hoai, who had only started working as a shipper one week prior to help support her family.

Her family faces difficult circumstances. Hoai's husband works far from home, leaving her to care for their three small children alone. She often carries her 10-month-old youngest daughter during deliveries due to a lack of childcare. On the day of the incident, her 7-year-old eldest daughter was at home, looking after her 4-year-old sibling.

Upon realizing her loss, the distraught young mother searched every road she had traveled, carrying her baby, until late evening, but without success. Attempts to call her lost phone yielded no signal. "20 million dong is a significant amount, equivalent to two months of my husband's salary," Hoai shared. "Our family has no savings to make up for it."

Hoai's plight quickly garnered significant attention after an image of her crying and searching for her lost items with her child was shared on social media. Many people, touched by her story and difficult situation, came forward with offers of assistance.

On the afternoon of 16/12, an anonymous benefactor, acting through a representative, donated 20 million dong to Hoai. This gift was intended to replace the money she had lost. Receiving the unexpected donation, the shipper expressed deep emotion, feeling relieved of a heavy debt burden.

"I am grateful for everyone's help, but I only wish to receive the exact amount lost, leaving the rest for those in more difficult circumstances," Hoai stated. Her most immediate wish is to recover her phone or borrow a relative's device so she can continue earning a living.

Le Van Ty, Vice Chairman of Hoa Quan commune People's Committee, confirmed Hoai is a local resident and her family is indeed in a challenging financial situation. He reiterated that with her husband working away, Hoai single-handedly manages the care of their three young children.
