Jiang Shufang recently reunited with Xu Xing, the benefactor who loaned her tuition 30 years ago. She offered 20,000 Chinese yuan (approximately 77 million VND) as repayment, but Xu declined, stating that "friendship is always more valuable than money".
The emotional reunion, which culminated in a visit in 3/2026, was shared online by Jiang's son, Aduo, on 7/4, bringing their touching story to public attention.
Their connection began in 1996 when Jiang, then a financially struggling medical student in Ho Nam province, corresponded with Xu, a bicycle shop owner in Giang To province. Facing financial difficulties, Jiang reached out to Xu for a tuition loan. Xu generously provided her with 1,200 Chinese yuan, which represented one-quarter of his savings at that time.
The loan enabled Jiang to complete her medical studies. She intended to repay Xu once she found employment, but a low starting salary and the burden of her mother's medical expenses prevented her from doing so. After several moves, the two lost contact in 1998, leaving Jiang with an unresolved debt and a persistent desire to express her gratitude.

For 28 years, Jiang diligently searched for Xu to repay the debt. Her efforts were fruitless as she lacked his address or phone number. Early this year, Jiang posted a plea on social media, seeking her benefactor. The post quickly spread, garnering significant attention across online communities in Ho Nam and Giang To provinces.
On 11/2, Xu saw Jiang's post and commented, "You haven't forgotten me after all these years?" Jiang responded, "I would regret it immensely if I couldn't thank you directly for your kindness." The online community then rallied to help connect the two, facilitating their long-awaited reunion.
In 3/2026, Xu and his friends traveled to Vinh Chau city, Ho Nam province, to visit Jiang's family. During the heartfelt meeting, Jiang embraced Xu, conveying her deep appreciation for his past generosity.

Aduo, Jiang's son, expressed the profound impact of Xu's assistance, telling him, "Without your money, my mother's life might have taken a different path."
