Across social media platforms, people in China are sharing various typhoon preparation methods. One of these is sticking photos of Xie Tingfeng on windows.
One Weibo account posted, "This time, we'll have to rely on him - Xie Tingfeng,".
On Threads, user xxpplljooeaee posted a photo of Xie Tingfeng taped to a door with the caption, "The typhoon is coming, everyone remember to keep Xie Tingfeng close,".

On X, user Inforkynder posted, "Super typhoon Ragasa is about to make landfall, are you ready?", along with a picture of the actor.
Many do this because the actor's name, "Tingfeng," means "stop the wind." Some consider him a "safety charm".
Born in 1980, Xie Tingfeng is a famous singer and actor, known for films like Young and Dangerous: The Prequel, The Promise, The Storm Warriors 2, and Dragon Tiger Gate.
Using Xie Tingfeng's photos to stop the wind is just a lighthearted practice. In reality, many residents still tape their windows in a "米" pattern to minimize the risk of shattering, despite the difficulty of removing the tape afterward.

This isn't the first time the "Xie Tingfeng charm" has been used against typhoons. In 2018, when super typhoon Mangkhut hit Hong Kong, causing an estimated 4.6 billion USD in damage, many people employed the same tactic.
Super typhoon Ragasa is predicted to cause similar devastation to Mangkhut. The typhoon's impact caused a reservoir to burst in eastern Taiwan on the afternoon of 23/9, resulting in at least 14 deaths and 124 people missing.
