On 13/3, a representative from the Ho Chi Minh Road Management Board announced that the unit had adjusted the maximum operating speed to 80 km/h across 5 sections, totaling approximately 10 km, to facilitate smoother traffic flow. These are four-lane sections, allowing vehicles to overtake.
The Cam Lo - La Son section of the North-South Expressway Project, which runs through Quang Tri province from Km0 to Km37 and through Hue city from Km37 to Km102, began expansion from two lanes to four lanes on 13/1.
To accommodate construction, the management unit initially adjusted the maximum operating speed on the expressway from 80 km/h down to 50 km/h.

However, in March, functional units inspected the site and proposed that in some sections of the project where construction had not yet started, the 50 km/h maximum speed significantly affected traffic flow. Vehicles formed long queues and moved slowly over nearly 100 km, causing difficulties for drivers.
Specifically in Hue city, contractors had only commenced localized construction at widely spaced points; the four-lane sections had not yet begun, with construction expected to start in July.
Therefore, Road Management Zone II requested the Ho Chi Minh Road Management Board to adjust the speed until construction commences, aiming to increase the road's traffic capacity and reduce frustration for drivers.
The Cam Lo - La Son expressway is 98.3 km long, with 36.3 km in Quang Tri and 62 km in Hue city. Phase one featured two lanes, with four-lane overtaking sections measuring 1-1.5 km and emergency stopping lanes. Operating speeds were 60-80 km/h for two-lane sections and a maximum of 80 km/h for four-lane sections.
After its inauguration, this route frequently became an accident blackspot, with many serious incidents involving heavy trucks and passenger buses. The Ministry of Construction decided to expand the road from two to four lanes, with a total investment of over 6 trillion dong from the state budget, to enhance traffic capacity and reduce accidents.
