Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro stops selling paper tickets at 4 stations

The metro line will stop selling paper tickets at the Municipal Theatre, Ba Son, Van Thanh, and Phuoc Long stations from 15/9, to reduce waiting times and limit cash use.

According to Urban Railway Company No. 1 (HURC1), passengers can use other methods to purchase tickets at these stations: ticket vending machines/kiosks, the HCMC Metro HURC app, and the Metro Miniapp on MoMo. Passengers can also pay directly at the gate using bank cards, e-wallets, or chip-based ID cards.

The pilot program of halting paper ticket sales at the ticket counters of these 4 stations aims to promote cashless payments and reduce waiting times. Initially, HURC1 will increase staff at the stations to guide and assist passengers.

The Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro has 14 stations, including three underground and 11 elevated. The remaining stations still offer eight ticket purchase and payment methods.

Passengers can purchase tickets at ticket vending machines (TVMs), paying with cash and receiving a card to scan at the gate, or pay directly with Mastercard, Visa, or Napas cards. They can also use mobile devices linked to bank cards to pay directly at the ticket gate.

Additionally, passengers can use citizen ID cards (for those eligible for preferential fares) or monthly passes linked to their citizen ID cards on the HCMC Metro HURC app.

Other options include: purchasing tickets at the counter with cash or card via POS machines to receive a QR code; buying tickets at a kiosk and paying with a bank card or e-wallet to receive a QR code; paying directly with an e-wallet and scanning the QR code at the gate; or purchasing tickets on the HCMC Metro HURC app and using the QR code to travel.

As Ho Chi Minh City’s first urban railway line, the nearly 20-km Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro connects the city center to the eastern gateway and was put into operation in late 2024. Currently, the metro operates from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The number of trains and intervals between trips can be adjusted flexibly to meet actual demand, especially on weekends or holidays.
