On 19/8, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) commenced the airport expansion and upgrade project with a total investment of approximately 2,400 billion VND, expected to be completed by 10/2026. The project aims to enable the airport to handle modern aircraft like the A320, A321, and similar models.
The main components of the project include constructing a 2,400 m long and 45 m wide cement concrete runway; a 128 m long and 15 m wide connecting taxiway; and an apron designed to accommodate three parking positions for A320/A321 aircraft and their equivalents. The existing terminal will be renovated and expanded, increasing its capacity to 500,000 passengers per year, with the potential to reach one million passengers.
Ca Mau airport, originally built during the French colonial period, currently has a 1,500 m long and 30 m wide runway, only suitable for smaller aircraft like the ATR72 (90 passengers) and Embraer E190 (124 passengers). The current terminal has a capacity of 200,000 passengers annually.
Currently, the airport only operates one flight per day between Ca Mau and Ho Chi Minh City using ATR72 aircraft. Bamboo Airways operated a Hanoi - Ca Mau route using Embraer E190 aircraft starting in mid-2023, but it was suspended shortly after.
