On 15/9, the Can Tho City Project Management Board for Traffic and Agricultural Construction Investment submitted a proposal to the Can Tho City People's Committee (CPC) to extend the western beltway from National Highway 91 (Thoi Long ward) to National Highway 80 (Vinh Trinh commune). This is a Group A project, funded by the local budget, and is expected to be implemented from 2025-2030.

The new route will connect with the 19.3 km section of the western beltway currently under construction, creating an inter-regional transport axis linking Can Tho with neighboring provinces and Cai Cui port (Nam Song Hau road).
The research unit has proposed an initial road width of 22 m (2 lanes, 11 m each), with land clearance along the entire route based on an 80 m roadbed to facilitate future expansion. The route will have six intersections, a design speed of 80 km/h, and will include an interchange with the Lo Te – Rach Soi Expressway.
The total investment includes approximately 2.5 trillion VND for site clearance, nearly 4.4 trillion VND for construction, and the remaining funds for other expenses.
Nguyen Van Hoa, Vice Chairman of the CPC, requested all parties to finalize the plan, ensuring optimal and cost-effective calculations in line with planning regulations. Compensation and resettlement for the project must be realistic and comply with existing policies.
Can Tho City broke ground on the 19.3 km western beltway section in November 2022 with an investment of nearly 4 trillion VND. Progress on this section has now surpassed 36%.
