On the morning of 18/8, at a meeting with veteran revolutionaries, former members of the Party Central Committee, and former leaders of central agencies, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and socio-political organizations on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (2/9), Party General Secretary To Lam emphasized the requirements for the new Central Committee members.
He stated that the 14th Central Committee must have an appropriate size and structure to ensure comprehensive leadership, with priority given to strengthening members in key positions, areas, and fields. "Comrades must be willing to think, act, take responsibility, and sacrifice personal interests for the common good; they must have prestige within the Party and be trusted by the people," the General Secretary stressed.

The General Secretary announced that the 14th National Party Congress is scheduled for Quarter I/2026. The Central Committee is actively preparing for the congress, aiming to make it a historical milestone, leading the country into an era of prosperity and sustainable development.
A new feature of this congress is the integration of three documents: the Political Report, the Socio-Economic Report, and the Party Building Report into one comprehensive political report. The congress will also approve an action program for the entire term. These documents are currently being circulated for feedback from party committees, party cells, party members, and the public.
Work accomplished "in one year equals many years"
Reporting to the veteran revolutionaries, the General Secretary said that the Politburo recently issued 4 strategic resolutions (57, 59, 66, and 68), focusing on key areas for national development: science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, international integration, law development and enforcement, and private sector development. This "demonstrates a long-term vision and determination to continue innovation, integration, and remove development barriers".
He emphasized that the workload of the Central Committee has been immense, achieving "in one year what would normally take many years", reflecting the spirit of "walking the talk", which has garnered support from officials, party members, and the public.
Streamlining the administrative apparatus has reduced central agencies' staff by 22,300; provincial level by over 18,400; and communal level by over 110,700. This has saved the budget trillions of dong; nearly 20,000 public facilities have been repurposed for healthcare, education, and community services.

The General Secretary recalled the contributions of previous generations over the past 80 years. He affirmed that the precious legacy left by predecessors is not only documents, resolutions, development strategies, projects, socio-economic achievements, improved living standards, but also political mettle, strategic vision, solidarity, and the spirit of self-reliance and resilience.
He emphasized that today, the country has entered a new era with aspirations for rapid and sustainable development, aiming to become a developed, high-income country by the mid-21st century. For continued innovation with new determination, strength, and stature, in addition to the efforts of the Party Central Committee, the entire political system, and the people, the support, wisdom, and experience of former Central Committee members and senior officials from previous periods are essential.
"These are people who deeply understand the laws of development, have experienced many difficult situations, always remain steadfast in their goals for the country and the people, and especially valuable, still maintain compassionate hearts," the General Secretary said.
He affirmed that those currently holding important responsibilities are always aware that inheriting the achievements of previous generations is both an honor and a great responsibility, and they are "committed to preserving, promoting, and developing the values that previous generations have painstakingly cultivated, continuing to innovate to meet the requirements of the times".
"I believe that with the 'forever 20' spirit, you will continue to accompany, contribute wisdom, experience, and prestige to help the Party lead the country through difficulties, rise strongly, and realize the aspiration of building a prosperous and happy Vietnam," the General Secretary emphasized.
