In phase 1, the city will focus on key components: investing in new decorative lighting for the Nguyen Van Troi Bridge, architectural lighting for the Tien Son Bridge, and upgrading the artistic lighting on the Thuan Phuoc, Han River, Dragon, and Tran Thi Ly bridges.
The city will install a skylight system on the bridges to illuminate the water's surface and create artistic focal points for the nightscape. Additionally, 4 laser lights will project beams into the sky, and 8 laser lights will project beams onto the water to enhance the visual effects. The entire system will be controlled through various artistic scenarios via a central control unit.
Vice Chairman Le Quang Nam assigned the Da Nang Management Board for Investment and Construction of Civil, Industrial, and Technical Infrastructure Works as the project investor. He also requested input from the Architectural Advisory Council during implementation to ensure quality and proper direction.

According to city officials, the current lighting system along the Han River already has highlights on the Dragon, Han River, Tran Thi Ly, and Thuan Phuoc bridges. However, these are fragmented, lack connectivity, and some components have deteriorated. The new project aims to create a comprehensive and synchronized lighting effect, highlighting the Han River – home to the city's architectural icons – and enhancing the urban nightscape.
Following phase 1, the city will continue to explore expanding the artistic lighting to the riverbanks, railings, and completing a synchronized control system for both sides of the river. Da Nang leaders hope that upon completion, the "River of Light" will not only transform the city's nighttime appearance but also become a unique tourist attraction, contributing to attracting visitors and promoting economic development.
The nearly 10 km-long Han River flows through the heart of Da Nang, dividing the city into east and west banks. The river boasts several famous bridges, including the Han River Bridge, the only rotating bridge in Vietnam, which can swivel to allow boats to pass. The Dragon Bridge is a modern symbol of Da Nang, designed in the shape of a dragon that breathes fire and water. The Thuan Phuoc Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in Vietnam, connecting the river mouth to Da Nang Bay. The Tran Thi Ly Bridge stands out with its cable-stayed architecture shaped like a sail. The Nguyen Van Troi Bridge, designed and built by RMK (USA), was the first road bridge over the Han River, initially built for wartime purposes.
