Dong Nai apologizes to 8 households with precarious homes due to road expansion

The investor of Provincial Road 753 admitted shortcomings in construction undertaken before land acquisition was complete, resulting in 8 households facing ground level differences of 5-10 m, a risk of landslides, and forced relocation.

On the morning of 17/3, Duong Hoang Anh Toan, deputy director of the Dong Nai Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board, met with residents of Tan Loi commune affected by the road construction process.

According to the Project Management Board, the section through the area has completed a 12-14 m wide crushed stone base and is currently constructing the talus slope. Eight households located near the excavation edge face ground level differences of 5-10 m, posing a potential landslide risk.

The issue arose because construction proceeded to ensure progress despite incomplete land handover. Under these limited construction conditions and significant elevation differences, homes near the excavation area are at risk. To address the immediate situation, the investor mobilized nearly 300 million dong to support residents with relocation.

During the meeting, Toan accepted responsibility and apologized to residents for the inconveniences. He also stated that the upgrade and expansion of Provincial Road 753 is a key project, designed to connect the area with Long Thanh Airport and Cai Mep Port, thereby promoting socioeconomic development.

He explained that pressure to accelerate progress late last year led to untimely inspection and supervision, resulting in construction methods unsuitable for the actual conditions, directly affecting residents' lives. "We do not blame the construction or supervision unit; we will focus on resolving this to ensure residents' rights", he said.

The Board's leadership committed to mobilizing socialized resources to support affected households with relocation and stabilizing their lives. They will also coordinate with the Dong Phu Land Fund Development Center to expedite compensation payments in accordance with regulations.

At the meeting, many households requested early compensation pricing to secure new housing. Some expressed a desire to have their ground levels lowered and continue building homes near the road.

Le Cam Tu, vice chairman of Tan Loi Commune People's Committee, stated that the locality is coordinating with departments to accelerate compensation and site clearance. Regarding the proposals for ground leveling and construction on agricultural land, the commune is awaiting expert opinions and will provide updates once a conclusion is reached.
