An unidentified truck driver died at the scene after their vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway. The accident, which occurred around 5 p.m. on 8/1, left the truck's cabin severely mangled and deformed, lodged tightly into the rear of the other vehicle.
The incident took place in Luong Hoa commune, Tay Ninh province, as the Dong Nai-plated truck was traveling towards Ho Chi Minh City. It unexpectedly crashed into a Hanoi-plated container truck driven by Nguyen Xuan Chinh, which was traveling ahead.
Due to the two crashed vehicles blocking lane 2 during the afternoon rush hour, the expressway experienced several kilometers of congestion. Traffic police had to divert vehicles onto National Highway 1 to alleviate the jam.
A quick check revealed that driver Chinh was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway is 50 km long, with four lanes and two emergency shoulders, and opened in 2010. After more than 12 years of operation, increased traffic volume has led to frequent congestion and accidents on the route. An upgrade and expansion project for this vital western arterial road began last month.
